bowling meeting
There will be an informational meeting for the Hilo High bowling boosters at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the school’s patio area.
The meeting is not mandatory, but all parents of returning and interested bowlers are encourages to attend.

Hilo triathlon
will be July 13
Hilo’s first official triathlon will start at 7 a.m. July 13 at James Kealoha Beach Park.
The Olympic-distance race consists of a 1.5-kilometer swim, a 40K-bike ride and a 10K run and is limited to the first 500 participants.
Registration is $150 through Saturday and $175 until June 30.

Softball tourney
slated in August
Teams are being sought for the “Battling for Cancer” 14-inch softball tournament scheduled Aug. 23-24 at Walter Victor Complex.
The tourney includes kupunas, men’s and women’s mixed teams. Entry fee is $200 per team.

fun day Sunday
A Hawaii Government Employees Association tennis fun day will be held noon-4 p.m. Sunday at Edith Kanakaole Multipurpose Stadium.
HGEA members and guests are invited to participate in social tennis doubles, and tennis balls will be provided.

at Waimea Park
The second annual Waimea Sports Expo will be held July 26 at Waimea Park.

Ray Kuruhara aced the 148-yard eighth hole Tuesday at Hilo Municipal Golf Course using an 8-iron.
Dana Sato, Eddie Chang, Ernie Kawamoto and George Yamanaka witnessed Kuruhara’s first hole-in-one.
—Agnes Yamauchi aced the 151-yard 13th hole from the gold tee Monday at Hilo Muni with a 4-iron.
Gary Cooper, Dominic Estrada, Dave Winchester, Catchy Winchester and Arnie Asato witnessed Yamauchi’s second hole-in-one.
